Electrical risk analysis must now follow the same methodology used for other occupational risks, consolidating safety as a holistic process.

The updated standard raises the technical level by making more explicit the need to calculate incident energy (Arc Flash) for the correct specification of protective clothing (PPE). Previously, the selection of FR (Flame-Resistant) clothing was often based on generic tables. Now, the requirement is clear: an arc flash study must be performed, based on the system's short-circuit currents, to determine the energy in cal/cm² to which a worker may be exposed. This ensures that the PPE offers adequate protection, preventing severe burns in the event of an arc flash.

The concept of “zero energy” gained even more strength. The updated NR-10 details with greater rigor the de-energization, lockout, and tagout (Lockout/Tagout – LOTO) procedures. The goal is to ensure, without a doubt, that a circuit or equipment is completely de-energized before any intervention. The standard reinforces the importance of devices that allow visible sectioning and safe physical lockout, preventing accidental re-energization.
