About Circuit Breakers
The medium voltage circuit breaker is the equipment responsible for safely interrupting load and short-circuit currents, protecting transformers, feeders and busbars. The choice between vacuum technology (low maintenance, gas-free, the most used in industry) and SF6 (compact, high dielectric strength) depends on the application and available space.
When specifying, consider the voltage class (15, 24 or 36 kV), the rated current (630 to 3200 A), the interrupting capacity (16 to 40 kA) and the accessories (CT, PT, disconnect switch, surge arrester). All comply with ABNT NBR IEC 62271-100, for installations according to NBR 14039 and NR-10.
Frequently asked questions
Vacuum or SF6, which to choose?
Vacuum is the most common option in industrial medium voltage due to low maintenance and absence of gases; SF6 is indicated for compact assemblies and high reliability.
How to size the interrupting capacity?
The capacity (kA) must be equal to or greater than the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point, calculated in the project.
