Armored cubicle: what types are there?

A shielded cubicle (or primary cubicle) is an essential component in electrical distribution systems. It acts as a kind of interface between the high-voltage electrical grid and low-voltage installations in industrial, commercial, or residential buildings.

The primary cabinet's main function is to reduce the voltage of electricity coming from the high-voltage grid to safe levels suitable for use in buildings. It can also house protective equipment (such as circuit breakers and transformers) to ensure the stability and security of the electricity supply.

Therefore, primary switchboards play a fundamental role in the efficient and safe distribution of electricity. Want to learn more? Then stay tuned!

What are the types of primary cabins?

There are several types of primary cabinets, each designed to meet specific power distribution needs. Learn about some of them.

Conventional primary cabin

A conventional primary cabinet is a structure that houses equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers and disconnect switches. This reduces the high voltage of the electrical network to safe and suitable levels for use.

This configuration is widely used due to its efficiency and reliability in delivering electricity. It also protects against overloads and short circuits and ensures the safety of electrical installations.

Simplified primary cabin

A simplified primary cubicle also consists of transformers and protection devices, but in a more basic configuration than conventional primary cubicles.

It is often used in smaller applications, such as small commercial buildings or rural areas, where electricity demand is limited and does not require sophisticated power distribution equipment.

Primary cabin with SF6 insulation

An SF6-insulated primary enclosure is a type of electrical structure that uses sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas as an insulating medium. This gas is highly effective in preventing electric arcs and offers greater safety compared to conventional insulators.

These cabinets are often used when installation space is limited, as they are more compact than conventional oil-filled cabinets. Furthermore, they are also suitable for harsh/critical environments due to their greater resistance to environmental factors.

Air-insulated primary multi-measurement cabin

An air-insulated primary multi-metering cabinet is an electrical structure that integrates advanced measurement and control capabilities while using air as an insulating medium. This combination allows for efficient monitoring and management of electrical energy consumption in industrial or commercial facilities.

Air insulation, while less complex than other options, maintains system safety and reliability. Therefore, these enclosures are designed to provide accurate information on electricity consumption, and are common in industrial and commercial buildings and electrical substations. Thus, they facilitate the control and optimization of energy use.
